The shortest break we run in Tamil Nadu. Vellore first, for the sixteenth-century fort with its Vijayanagara-era Jalakandeswarar temple inside the walls, and the Sripuram golden temple on the edge of town. Then up the ghat road to Yelagiri, a quiet, low-key hill station at around 1,100 metres with a lake, a nature park and viewpoints over the plains — small enough that a single night is genuinely enough.
